Lady Gaga, Gaga over her Birkins
The Hermes Birkin is one of Hollywood’s most coveted bags. Hand-made, limited in quantity but unlimited in quality, it’s no wonder everyone from Kimora Lee Simmons to Victoria Beckham have been photographed carrying this exclusive accessory. A Birkin can cost upwards to a whomping $50,000, so it’s no surprise that a huge hoopla has been made after pop singer Lady Gaga was captured by the paparazzi with two mutilated Birkins–on two separate occasions.
The fashion world is undoubtedly sucking its teeth and shaking its head feverishly. The singer was photographed with a white Birkin a few weeks ago with what appeared to be Japanese characters written with a sharpie. More recently, she was seen carrying a black version with spikes running through it.
*kanye shrug*
It is HER money and she can do whatever the hell she wants with it. But for us fashionistas, it is a deep stab to the heart, leaving a permanent scar. Some wait for years just to get their hands on one!
Ingenious and innovative or just plain stupid? What do you guys think?

There’s a funny scene on SATC2 with a birkin and Samantha Jones…anyway, about Gaga–who gives if she likes to add more flavor to the plain-jane bag? Anyway, if I had that cash and I was a female I might just buy her version over the original ;]
Not how I would spend 50k but hey if it makes her happy, why not!
It’s just another example of Gaga trying to make it seem as if she is laughing in the face of popular culture and consumerism when in reality she is fueling it; both with her personal advertisement and her funds. Not so far off from her music in my opinion.
